I haven't been keeping up with Synthfont development for the last year or so, so yesterday I downloaded most of the new files (SynthFont 1.330, VSTi 1.047, SyFonOne 1.000, and, for good measure, Viena 0.730) and spent some time re-familiarizing myself.

I've got a few problems:

1) Viena--when I "play" a preset consisting of overlapping instruments (using the embedded keyboard), only one of the instruments is heard. For a particular note, I think it's the last active one in the list of instruments. Also, the red box on the keyboard displaying the instrument range often doesn't show. I don't have these problems when playing the presets in SynthFont's "mini" Viena

2)I've tried playing the SynthFont VSTi using VstHost and Analog Box. In both cases, the VSTi does not respond to CC#1 (Modulation Wheel) inputs, either in MIDI files (whether played internally in VstHost, or passed through a Maple virtual cable to VstHost or Analog Box) or using the manual embedded wheel in VstHost. SyFonOne similarly does not respond. SynthFont does not respond when fed through the "MIDI input", but does respond to the Modulation Wheel levels when playing a file internally.

I wish that I could be 100% confident that I interconnected all these different programs correctly, but I'm pretty sure that I'm doing it right; I have no problem getting the synths to play, it's just that they don't respond to the Wheel. For instance, using the same SoundFont and preset, I was able to use the VstHost Modulation wheel to control the SBLive hardware synth, but not SyFonOne.

Thanks.
1. yes - a bug I have already seen. Here is a test version of Viena0740A with this item fixed. This also has a new feature I would like to hear comments on: Support for playing on the PC keyboard in Creative's Vienna style (keys AWSEDFTGYHUJKOLP and 1-9 to switch octave). Just save the file in Viena's folder and run it as such.

2. I have got the comment about the missing Mod Wheel response from other sources as well and I was astonished. A quick look at the source didn't relieve anything particular, so I will have to dig deeper. Another similar comment is that VSTSynthFont does not respond to bank change messages - equally odd.

Cheers
Kenneth

When I try to run Viena0740A, I get this message:
"This application has failed to start because qtintf70.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Ops! I have recompiled it so that it doesn't require this file now. Use the link as above.

Thanks, this works. The presets sound correct; the red boxes only show for alternate--that is, every other, or odd numbered in the list--instruments. This is only true for presets; instruments appear to display samples correctly. The keyboard playing works well--nice touch.
