Friends!
I am once more trying my best to get the stand-alone midi port player SyFon to work. Here is the next test version. Please tell me how it works - IF it works. I would appreciate if you could test it with all three output options: standard, DirectSound and ASIO (for example with ASIO4ALL).

Many thanks
Kenneth

Hi Kenneth
I got the test Syfon playing (although badly) only the first two times. After that no sounds at all whether on standard (??)
ASIO4all or Direct sound.
May also be due to the fact that the meaning and purpose of the Direct sound Window and Player are not quite clear to me.
Hope this make some sense to you.

Regards
Djim

DirectSound may be tricky, but when playing through ASIO there shouldn't be any problems.
Very strange!

If I expand the System Tray (Notification Area) in Windows XP while playing in ASIO mode, the player goes silent until I click on the player window. In other modes, the sound only stumbles a bit.

An unrelated comment: A nice, somewhat newer, feature of Synthfont is the bank manager; however, its usefulness is restricted because Synthfont doesn't seem respond to "bank select" messages when in MIDI Input mode (Is this true?); I bring this up because SyFon seems to be targeted as a substitute for SynthFont in MIDI input mode, and relies, like the VSTi, on default SoundFonts and track lists and arrangements to select banks instead of some sort of bank manager. So now when I create a new track in my sequencer cabled to SyFon, I can't just select a bank and instrument there, I have to get into SyFon (or SynthFont in input mode, or the VSTi) and modify the arrangement. And, for some reason, you can't select an arrangement file in SynthFont in input mode, so bank changes must be made manually(?). As you might guess from my comment, I find arrangement files to be confusing and a nuisance.

Sorry about the whining--we all appreciate your hard work and dedication.

Hi Kenneth
Just a Xmas eve report on test Syphon, which might not be related to Syphon. But just in case..........
Got it playing again on ASIO4all ,although wit bad latency problems.Changing settings in the asio window does nothing.
Also there is an indication of volume overload in the show tracks window with some files.
Have a nice Xmas and a prosperous New Year and..........take some rest

regards

Djim
