- When entering a number less than 1 in any field it complains of an invalid number and won't set the number - Changing the Correction field for samples also changes the loop start to 0 - Entering any value in the loop start / end field changes it to 0 - 0. - When loading a WAV file, the Root Key is set but Correction is not. - When adding a new preset in a file loaded in tab 2, 3 or 4, it says that the soundfont contains no instruments.
And I almost forgot, in SynthFont when I press change default soundfont and select the same file that it was using before, it won't reload the file. Perhaps it would be better if it did so, so that one doesn't have to change to another file and back to test changes?
More bugs: Viena often crashes when copying presets or saving. Setting invalid loop points can also crash it. And in SynthFont, if you press Stop Playing while the song is paused, it freezes.
Thanks Some of these sound like good old bugs I thought I had fixed already. There's a new thing with software bugs that i think someone should investigate: sometimes they behave like viruses - just mutate slightly and come back in full galore!
Kenneth
BTW I will be away for a few weeks and not able to do anything about this right now.
I am an enthusiastic user of Viena, but must report the same bug which heads Gigasoft's list. Fortunately I still have an older version of Viena on my computer.
Kenneth, It's now working for me. If I clicked on an audio sample in the "Tree List" (right terminology?) in the extreme left of the Viena screen after opening a soundfont file, no information about the sample appeared in the "windows" at the right. They were all blank except for the "Audio Sample" list above the words, "Used by these instruments". Then I accidentally clicked on an audio sample name in that list, and the problem cleared: the waveform appeared, and so also did all the other information. From that point on, I could click on an audio sample name in the left Tree list, and normal behaviour followed. I then closed down Viena and ran it again. If I then opened the soundfont used in the previous paragraph, the problem was no longer present. However, I then closed Viena once more and ran it again, and this time opened a "new" soundfont. The problem reappeared, but could be removed by clicking on the sample name in the list to the right, as mentioned in the second paragraph above. From then on, behaviour was normal. I don't recall this behaviour from earlier versions of Viena.
I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior but I have my reasons to believe it is due to one particular variable not being properly initialized on your computer. I say "on your computer" because I have noticed this behavior before - something that works for me doesn't necessary work on another computer, for some strange reason. You can help me find the flaw by running this new test version. Just save the file in Viena's folder and run it as usual. Tell me how it works.
Kenneth, I tried it with that special test version, and got the same behaviour. I am running Windows XP Home, SP2 and possibly SP3. I'm not aware of anything unusual about my set-up.
